For eclectic singer-songwriter Aaron Lee Tasjan’s third album, Karma for Cheap, Tasjen moves away from 2016’s Americana-tinged Silver Tears to explore the Britpop and retro glam influences from his youth. Karma for Cheap was co-produced by Tasjan, Jeffrey Trott (Sheryl Crow), and Gregory Lattimer and it culminates in a trippy set of captivating rock songs that evoke both the spirit of the Sixties and the genre bending song craft of today. Album highlights include: the Tom Petty-esque “Heart Slows Down”; the guitarist Audley Freed co-composed “Crawling at Your Feet”; the tripped-out ballad “Dream Dreamer”; the Roy Orbison tinged “Strange Shadows”; the T. Rex infused “The Rest Is Yet to Come”; and the Fab Four inspired “The Truth Is So Hard to Believe” and “If Not Now When.” Aaron Lee Tasjan’s Karma for Cheap is an enjoyable and eclectic listen that is playful, smartly written, and well produced. – Written by JFelton
