Adam Haworth Stephens, one half of the San Francisco folk duo Two Gallants, recently released his debut solo venture We Live on Cliffs. While a solo effort, Stephens is far from alone, calling upon the talents of guest musicians Patrick Hallahan (drums, My Morning Jacket) who appears on many of the tracks, Bo Koster (organ, My Morning Jacket), Nate Walcott (trumpet, Bright Eyes), Cody Votolato (guitar, Blood Brothers), Petra Haden (fiddle, backing vocals), Andy Cabic (backing vocals, Vetiver) and Joey Waronker (drums). From the first track, “Praises in Your Name” to the country tinged “Everyday I Fall”, Stephens brings a distinctly textured and introspective take to folk pop in contrast to the atmospheric, organic folk of Two Gallants. With We Live on Cliffs Stephens again proves his artistic chops, showing what a great talent can do when stretching in new directions. – Written by JFelton
