American Aquarium is the full-band musical outlet for North Carolina singer-songwriter BJ Barham, and Things Change (the band’s seventh studio release) follows the greatly under-rated 2015 release Wolves as well as his first-rate 2016 solo album, Rockingham. Things Change was produced by Americana singer/songwriter John Fullbright and is a collection of songs that put Barham’s well-weathered vocals in the forefront of his ever-changing band while exploring themes of sobriety, fading youth, lost time and the current political landscape. Album highlights include: the politically charged opener “The World Is On Fire”; the tender ballad “One Day At A Time”; the Honky Tonk number “I Gave Up On Drinking (Before She Gave Up On Me)”; the alt-country rocker “Tough Folks”; and the closing tearjerker “’Til The Final Curtain Falls.” BJ Barham is easily one of this generation’s most overlooked roots/country singer-songwriters and Things Change is another excellent album that will captivate fans and new audiences alike. – Written by JFelton
