Year of Magical Drinking is the debut album of Ross Flournoy’s (formerly of Broken West – guitars, vocals) latest project, Apex Manor. Following the demise of the power pop band and subsequent writers block, Flournoy came back around with the help of NPR’s Monitor Mix song competition. What resulted is the SoCal based indie rock band Apex Manor, which includes Flournoy’s longtime collaborator Adam Vine (whose LA Apartment complex lends its name to the band), Brian Whelan, and Andy Creighton. The collection of smart sunny pop tunes is filled with fierce guitars, lively rhythms, and a dark, melancholy edge. Fans of Broken West and new listeners will enjoy this album of catchy power pop. – Written by JFelton
