Bradford Cox, frontman of noise rock outfit Deerhunter, returns to his itinerant solo project Atlas Sound. Parallax, the third studio full-length as Atlas Sound, is straightforward pop with little ambient noise to be found. Parallax, which is the difference between perceived distances, is a fitting title, with Cox lyrically exploring the difference in perceptions of fear and loneliness as well as the inevitable comparison of differences and similarities between Atlas Sound and Deerhunter. Regardless, Cox’s ventures with acoustic guitar reach a new level of clarity and simplicity, making Parallax an excellent album. – Written by JFelton
