The Bones of JR Jones – One to Keep Close

  • June 25, 2018

On One to Keep Close, one-man-band Jonathon Linaberry (a.k.a. The Bones of JR Jones ) continues to explore his interest in primal roots music and refine his sound. His latest collection of songs features minimal instrumentation and a rough-around-the-edges vibe with elements like distorted guitar, handclaps, a distant piano and unrefined, no-frills vocals. Notable tracks include: the dirty rocker “The Drop”; the Nicole Atkins duet, “Burden”; the R.L. Burnside inspired “Know My Name”; the fragile sounding “Slow Down”; the somber “Sinner Song”; the tender “Die Young”; and the anthemic folk rocker “Take Me Away.” Overall, this is a great effort from The Bones of JR Jones, showcasing growth and maturity as a musician. To quote Linaberry, “I’ve never been truly satisfied with my prior releases, but because of the slow process I took on this album, every choice was painfully deliberate and intentional. I feel like this album is more me than any other prior release.” – not-to-mention, it’s a great listen! – Written by JFelton
