After earning a loyal fanbase over the years and two full-length releases, The Builders and the Butchers continue to play bluesy folk/rock that is anything but tame. Recorded live over eight days using minimal overdubbing, the Portland-based quintet strived to capture the essence of the band, which is something often lost on recordings, according to singer Ryan Sollee. Producer Adam Selzer (The Decemberists, M. Ward) returned to work on Dead Reckoning (he produced their sophomore release Salvation Is A Deep Dark Well) and the end result is a raucous set of tracks that use an array of instruments – banjo, organ, melodica, mandolin and piano to name a few – to create beautiful arrangements that have character and depth. – Written by DBosket
