The Minneapolis duo of Jack Torrey and Page Burkum take inspiration from the early days of country and pre-rock ‘n’ roll and bands like Everly and Louvin Brothers, while making it their own. The latest album, You’re Dreaming, was produced by roots rockabilly mainstay JD McPherson and takes The Cactus Blossoms’ polished sibling harmonies and stripped down country and adds a rhythm section, rounding out their sound. Album highlights include: opener “Stoplight Kisses”; the soulful “Powder Blue”; the love ballad which is the title track; the Buddy Holly-esque “No More Crying the Blues”; the country waltz “Adios Maria”; and the upbeat “Clown Collector.” The Cactus Blossoms keep getting better with each album, and You’re Dreaming is a polished gem – one of my early favorites of 2016. – Written by JFelton
