Chicago’s Califone is heading toward 2 decades together, and their latest, Stitches, follows 09’s fantastic All My Friends are Funeral Singers. In the experimental band’s first studio venture outside of their hometown, lead (and singular band member) Tim Rutilli recorded with revolving local musician in California, Texas, and Arizona. What results is another artfully crafted collection of works that stretch beyond bluesy folk into more rock influenced pieces including swaths of grunge and electronica. Standouts among the ten include the title track, “Magdalene”, and “Bells Break Arms.” – Written by SMarx
