Hundred Acres is the third full-length release from Wisconsin singer/songwriter S. Carey (Bon Iver). This time he’s changed things up a bit from the chamber folk of his first two albums (2010’s All We Grow and 2014’s Range of Light) to a more understated acoustic based affair. The piano and synths that created All We Grow and Range of Light’s ethereal soundscapes have been replaced by the acoustic guitar as the backbone of many of the songs. Nevertheless, Carey thematically maintains the deep connection to nature and its power to renew. Highlights include: the reflective heartbreaker “Rose Petals”; the more upbeat and sunny “More I See”; the dreamy closing track “Meadow Song”; the melancholy “Hideout”; the laidback yet lively “Yellowstone”; and the hushed song ”Fool’s Gold.” Honestly, there isn’t a bad track on the album and like his previous work, Hundred Acres is strikingly beautiful. – Written by JFelton
