Seattle blues-folk outfit The Cave Singers have switched from Matador to Jagjaguwar for their third LP, No Witch. Working with producer Colin Stewart (who has produced fellow Jagjaguwar band Black Mountain), the new album is “grander and more lush,” according to the label. No Witch also has a stronger rock influence this time out, as evidenced by the gritty “Falls” and “Faze Wave,” but still retain much of the homespun charm on “All Land Crabs and Divinity Ghosts” and “Distant Sures.” Like many people in Washington state, I still think of their song “Seeds of Night” that was featured in a super sappy but completely adorable Washington State Lottery commercial. With that in mind, it’s nice to hear The Cave Singers push themselves on this album, which has a nice combination of both sweet songs and grittier sounds. – Written by DBosket
