New Orleans singer/songwriter Chris Acker follows-up 2020’s Good Kid with his third full-length Odd, Ordinary and Otherwise – a collection of songs packed with introspection, true stories, polished songwriting, and unflinching honesty. Recorded in New Orleans with Nikolai Shveitser (pedal steel), Odd, Ordinary, and Otherwise sounds at once of a particular time and place and yet timeless all the same. The songs of Odd, Ordinary and Otherwise are influenced by months of isolation during COVID quarantine as well as by Acker’s place in the New Orleans dancehall and busking community. Standout tracks include: the rambling opening track “Panicked and Paralyzed”; the laidback ambling tune “Walkin’”; the witty upbeat ditty “Styrofoam”; the mellow country two-step song “Refinery”; the Laurel Canyon-esque track “Caviar”; the Hawaiian steel guitar-tinged low-budget travel tune “Complimentary Continental”; the raucous rocker “Bound”; and the catchy dancehall number “She Lives.” Chris Acker is an extremely gifted singer/songwriter in the vein of John Prine, and Odd, Ordinary, and Otherwise will definitely be on my bestof list at year end! – Written by JFelton
