The Cordovas follow up their very enjoyable 2018’s That Santa Fe Channel with Destiny Hotel –another collection of songs rooted in a blend of country, jam-band sounds, and southern rock. The Cordovas started writing Destiny Hotel right after That Santa Fe Channel, and accordingly the newest picks-up right where the previous album left off, with lush Americana arrangements combined with storytelling adapted from a variety literary and poetic sources ranging from: spiritual guru Eckhart Tolle to mythologist and theologist Joseph Campbell to the poet Rainer Maria Rilke. Themes from Destiny Hotel focus on redemption, conquering fears, overcoming pettiness, and respect for nature. Album highlights include: the sunny opener “High Feeling”; the 70’s vibed country rocker “Rain on The Rail”; the catchy number “I’ma Be Me”; the dreamy country-rock ballad “Afraid No More”; the groove-laden country rocker “Destiny”; the rambling The Band-esque number “Fine Life”; and the lighthearted anthem “Do More Good.” The Cordovas’ Destiny Hotel is a sun-kissed record that’s a very enjoyable listen and I look forward to their next album already. – Written by JFelton
