Bellingham, WA is best known as the hometown of Death Cab for Cutie and The Posies, however this border town has a surprisingly large thriving roots/folk scene. It was here that Coty Hogue relocated after a childhood in rural Montana and presumably the reference of Hogue’s album To the West. Backed by Aaron Guest (Polecat, Vantage; 12-string guitar) and Kat Bula (fiddle), Hogue’s well-crafted Applachian style ballads, simple vocals and accomplished banjo take center stage on this beautiful re-release of her 2009 debut. Standout tracks include “Shiloh’s Hill/Battle of Shiloh Hill”, “Undone in Sorrow”, and “Sugar Moon.” – Written by SMarx
