Danny & The Champions of the World’s fourth album, Stay True, sounds as if it is vintage Stax or Muscle Shoals instead of modern day urban London. Although not released in the U.S. yet, this album is a great set of blues, country, gospel and roots rock infused music and well worth seeking out. There are many highlights but a few select ones include: the opening track “(Never Stop Building) That Old Space Rocket” about a time frontman Danny George Wilson hitchhiked to a Fabulous Thunderbirds show with his father and pays homage to not giving up on your dreams; and “Stop Thief” which is reminiscent of the more bluesy side of Springsteen or Southside Johnny but with a little steel guitar in the mix. Other standouts include: “Breaking Out” with its tender banjo accompaniment; the folksy “Other Days”; and the soulful closer “Time Again.” As their fans will testify, Danny & the Champions of the World consistently make excellent records, and this one is no different. – Written by JFelton
