San Francisco trio Dawn Riding is comprised of Sarah Rose Janko (lead vocals, acoustic guitar), Hall McCann (harmony vocals, electric guitar), and Jasmyn Wong (drums). Their eight-song debut Last Spring is an intimate Americana album with touches of psychedelia featuring stories about loners, friends, renegade icons, and heartache. Standout tracks include: the hazy reflections on New Orleans on “Mud”; the roaming “Savannah”; the twangy foreboding single “Trouble”; the dreamy title-track; the beautiful heartbreak of “Quentina”; and the gorgeously minimal closer, “Call You Home.” Dawn Riding’s Last Spring is a beautiful, heartbreaking, and endearing album that is somehow dreamy and gritty at the same time. At its heart, it is simply a great debut release and easily one of my favorite albums of the year. – Written by JFelton
