Four years after releasing their last album, Negativity, the Providence, RI quartet will release two new albums of original material, the acoustic folk of Deer Tick Vol. 1 and the punk infused Deer Tick Vol. 2. Both were recorded with long-time producer Adam Landry at Ardent Studios in Memphis, Tennessee. A few highlights from Vol. 1 include: the beautiful “Sea of Clouds”; the summer shimmy of “Doomed from the Start”; the drinking confessional “Cocktail”; the jangly “Card House”; the upbeat “Me & My Man”; and the piano ballad “Hope is Big.” Standouts on Vol. 2. include: opener “Don’t Hurt”; the Replacements-esque “Jumpstarting”; the rowdy punk rocker “It’s a Whale”; the piano rocker “Tiny Fortunes”; and the lively closer “Mr. Nothing Gets Worse.” The two albums complement one another perfectly and reflect the duality of Deer Tick’s contrasting styles/personalities: the pensive singer/songwriter and the loud and raucous. – Written by JFelton
