South Liverpool (yes, you read that right) musician Delta Maid grew up listening to her father’s collection of classic blues, soaking up the Americana, roots and delta blues influences of legends like BB King, Taj Mahal, Bonnie Raitt and Stevie Ray Vaughan. On her debut EP Broken Branches, Delta Maid brings both faithful renditions and fresh interpretations of the sounds of the genres, from full on honky tonk twang to wailing, soulful blues. Her delivery is passionate and earnest on these five tracks – two covers (J.B. Lenoir’s “Slow Down” and Eric Bibbs’ “Don’t Ever Let Nobody Drag Your Spirit Down”) and three originals including the title track. Broken Branches is a solid album that revels in the smooth sounds of the past. – Written by JFelton
