If you’re not familiar with Dex Romweber, you should be. He put out series of influential albums in the 1980’s and 90’s with the Flat Duo Jets that influenced a number of killer bands that include The Black Keys and The White Stripes. Since the Flat Duo Jets, Romweber has released several albums under his own name and more recently as the Dex Romweber Duo (composed of his sister, Sara, and himself). The duo returns with their third album, Images 13, which is another stellar set of originals and obscure covers with a 50’s inspired American music vibe filtered through a rock n roll/blues lens. Highlights include: the rough and tumble stomp of “Long Battle Coming”; heartbreaker “I Don’t Want To Listen”; surf-rock gem “Blackout!”; the melancholic Johnny Burnette cover “One Sided Love Affair;” raunchy “Roll On,” and foot stomper “So Sad About Us.” Romweber is a musician well worth discovering.
