Brooklyn cosmic country singer/songwriter Dougie Poole follows-up his 2017 debut album Wideass Highway with The Freelancers Blues – another eccentric mash-up of experimental pop and outlaw country. Poole’s music is definitely a twist on country music with keyboards that try to mimic pedal steel guitar and jangly rhythms alongside tongue-in-cheek musings about lost love, the life struggles ordinary folks, and recreational drugs. Poole’s music definitely draws on traditional country music and his songs are witty, honest, and convey compassion and understanding for the working folk who inhabit many country music songs. Notable tracks include: the modern-day working man’s lament “Vaping on the Job”; the heartbreaker “Buddhist for a Couple of Days”; an escapist relocation song “Los Angeles”; the song about merry-go-round quality of modern dating on “Natural Touch”; the bittersweet “Claire”; and the expansive and lush track “The Who’s Who of Who Cares.” Dougie Poole’s The Freelancers Blues is a psychedelic country experience that pushes the limits of country music with experimentation and creativity mixed with tradition. – Written by JFelton
