Many things come to mind while listening to Dreamers of the Ghetto’s self-titled debut – the soaring vocals, the ‘80s influences, the uplifting tone in each track, and the grand scale that each song seems to be framed around. Originally a trio from Nashville; now a quartet living in Bloomington, Indiana, Dreamers of the Ghetto have been gaining some positive buzz lately based on their dramatic live shows. The album is a curious mix of working class bar rock with a hint of ‘80s hipster dream pop and a tiny dash of Brit-rock here and there. Songs like “State of a Dream” and “Always” have hints of early U2, James, and Paul Westerberg. “Regulator” patiently builds up to reach an uplifting chorus that echoes Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, and if given the stage at Madison Square Garden, I think Dreamers could bring down the house with this song. – Written by DBosket
