If legendary Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart gives you a nickname, and take it and use it. Such is the case with songwriter Isaac Gillespie, who earned Hart’s praise (and a voicemail on Bob Weir’s phone) upon successfully playing a set of Dead songs to a Bob Diddley beat, to which Hart quipped, “Hey – that’s Diligence!” In the first iteration as The Due Diligence, Gillespie along with Colin Fahrner (Big Tree; drums), Ben Sadock (bass), Jo Schornikow (piano), Alex P (slide guitar and producer), and Morgan Heringer (backing vocals) wrote and recorded their full-length debut I Will Wreck Your Life. While The Due Diligence now hosts a different line-up, the album captures a two-year collaboration that results in ten country rock/soul tunes that lay the groundwork for Gillespie’s witty anti-protest lyrics.
