Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros – PersonA

  • July 11, 2016

For their fourth album, PersonA, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros change things up a bit up by gathering the entire band (minus former co-vocalist Jade Castrinos) together in a single room to write and record as a group for the first time. The collaborative approach is further carried through on the album art in which “Edward Sharpe and” is crossed out with red lines, leaving only “The Magnetic Zeros.” From a musical stance, PersonA is more polished and expressive than the anthemic jam band music of past. Standouts include: the hazing lament “Hot Coals”; the scat/jazz-touched track “Wake Up the Sun”; the tender “Somewhere”; the spiritual vibe of “Uncomfortable”; and the folk anthem and debut single, “No Love Like Yours.” PersonA is an impressive, solid release that finds The Magnetic Zeros growing as a band and musically.
