2011 was a year of significant change for J. Tillman, finding the Seattleite quitting his drumming gig with indie masters Fleet Foxes out of boredom and relocating to the bed of 70’s country folk/rock (think Joni Mitchell, The Doors, Jackson Browne), the L.A. neighborhood of Laurel Canyon. Following a two month stint living in his van and a treehouse and writing a novel under the influence of mushrooms, Tillman settled into the area and reincarnated himself as Father John Misty. Produced by Phil Ek (Modest Mouse, Band of Horses, Fleet Foxes) and recorded at Jonathan Wilson’s (Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Jonathan Rice) Echo Park studio, Fear Fun blends dark humor, subversive wit, and talented musicianship. The acoustic folk album, including said novel in the liner notes, is set to be released May 1st on Sub Pop Records. – Written by JFelton
