It’s been a long road traveled for Chris Porterfield who watched his former bandmates in DeYarmond Edison go off to success with Bon Iver and Megafaun. Now Porterfield is back in a new incarnation – Field Report – which is an anagram of his name and with without a doubt one of the best albums of the year. The album channels Porterfield’s personal struggles since the DeYarmond Edison break-up, telling stories over slowly picked acoustic guitar, piano accents and melodious, droning pedal steel. Tracks that best exemplify the album include “I Am Not Waiting Anymore”, “The Year of the Get You Alone”, “Chico The American”, and opening track “Fergus Falls.” Field Report is a brilliant album, giving another great musician long overdue and deserved attention. – Written by JFelton
