Documenta is the new album from Montreal based musician Fred Woods (former lead singer of the band Château) which is a captivating blend of folk and expansive electronic music. Primarily recorded in Woods’ apartment, Documenta is a solid album with first-rate songcraft, warm hazy production and a myriad of instruments ranging from guitars, drums, saxophone, harmonium, keyboards, ukelele, charango, and samples. Despite the desolate and lonely undertones, there are tender moments that fade in and out that range from hushed tones to rising swells of cinematic sounds. Standouts include the slowly building atmospheric “The Pond” and somber “Schools.” Documenta is a hauntingly beautiful album well worth checking out. – Written by JFelton
