Seattle singer-songwriter Sam Watts (a.k.a. Ghosts I’ve Met) is back with a talented coterie of local musicians on his full length debut From a Spark. As with his Payphone Patience EP, From a Spark showcases nine simply arranged songs of lush indie folk. With such an all-star roster which includes members of The Maldives, The Shins, Modest Mouse, Whalebones and Damien Jurado’s band, Watts could easily be overwhelmed or outgunned, but not only does he hold his own, he leads the fine crew with piano, acoustic guitar, and expressive warm vocals. From a Spark is worth a serious listen and is on my short list of favorite albums of the year. – Written by JFelton
