Asheville, North Carolina’s Golden Shoals – formerly known as Hoot and Holler (aka Mark Kilianski and Amy Alvey) – is out with a self-titled album under the new moniker. The new album, the duo’s fourth, features a set of more sophisticated, nuanced and polished old-timey Americana songs about love and loss, personal growth, and political strife. The twelve original tracks range from stripped-down singles to fuller productions complete with drums, bass, electric guitar, organ, percussion, and tenor guitar. Album highlights include: the country swing opener “Everybody’s Singing”; the gentle lament “I’ll Fall In Love Again”; the toe-tapper “Old Buffalo”; the heartbreaker “New Friend”; the whimsical folk song “Love from Across the Border”; the contemplative number the “Going Down, Down, Down”; and the socio/political closing track “Sittin’ Pretty.” In this new chapter for the duo, Golden Shoals is a stellar release – it’s infectious, emotive and an enjoyable listen! – Written by JFelton
