Goodnight, Texas (a.k.a. San Francisco’s Avi Vincour and Chapel Hill’s Patrick Dyer Wolf) have released their highly anticipated third studio album, Conductor. Vincour and Wolf continue to showcase their love of western history/lore and old-time traditional Americana music with mandolin, banjo and guitar but this time instead of sparse and cinematic their sound is a bit more amplified with a full band feel. Conductor also explores the theme of “turning points” be it personal, political, musical or global, and the possibilities that come with change. Standouts include: the drowning folk jam “Keep Movin’”; the driving yet hopeful “Tucumcari”; the fuzzed-out boot stomper “Outrage for the Execution of Willie McGee”; and the somewhat upbeat and carefree “Takin’ Your Word for It.” All-in-all, another solid effort by Goodnight, Texas! – Written by JFelton
