Making their first foray into the alt-country/indie-rock scene is Chicago four-piece Grand and Noble, and their self-titled debut showcases an exciting set of ten songs tinged with blues-rock. Frontman Jon Elling centers the band with his wistful lead vocals, while the full sound of guitar, piano and bass along with the intoxicating male harmonies. They are a literate bunch, too, with standout “Hellcats” – a track about WWI veterans which was inspired by Elling’s own grandfather as well as Kurt Vonnegut and Joseph Heller. Other notable tracks include “This Light”, and closer “Send Me on My Way” which features Rachel Sara Thomas (Automata) on guest vocals. – Written by SMarx
