Greg Graffin – Millport

  • June 19, 2017

Millport – the third solo record from Bad Religion frontman Greg Graffin – continues in the country/folk direction of 2006’s brooding Cold as Clay. Released via Anti-Records, Millport is co-written/produced by fellow Bad Religion member Brett Gurewitz (founder of Epitaph Records) and features a backing band made-up of members from another famed L.A. punk band, Social Distortion: David Hidalgo Jr., Brent Harding, and Johnny “Two Bags” Wickersham. Featuring an intricate combination of acoustic and electric guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, and more, standout tracks include: the Southern rock opening track “Backroads of My Mind”; the logging tune “Sawmill”; the historical narrative of “Lincoln’s Funeral Train”; the bluegrass based “Echo On The Hill”; and the Southern hymnal “Time Of Need.” Millport is a solid record from Graffin and showcases a new level of musicianship and intelligent lyricism, making for a cohesive record that is deeply rooted in American history. – Written by JFelton
