Athens, Georgia based traditional Southern group Hibbs Family Band is comprised of Rob (guitar) and Garrett Hibbs (bass) of Southern rock band Georgia Dish Boys, their parents, Henry (fiddle) and Judy Hibbs (piano), and Ashley Na (cello). The Hibbs family music and art making traditions go back generations and are also featured in the cover art taken from a painting of a young Henry Hibbs learning to play the fiddle which was created by their grandmother Ruth Hibbs. Tears in Missouri is the Hibbs Family Band’s debut and was made the old-fashioned way with strings, vocals, and songs about country life, wanderlust, and making music. The album was recorded at a local studio (Full Moon in Watkinsville), at The Foundry in Athens, GA, and in the Hibbs’ own living room. Album highlights include: “a song about writing music about what you know “Living 50 Songs”; the tale of wanderlust “Just Another Story (That’s Told)”; the tale of escape “Breakin’ the Daylight”; the road weary tale “Pack Up the Sun”; the wistful piano-fiddle duet and title-cut; a reflection on family ties “A Straight Story”; and the slow country waltz “Distance and Time.” Tears in Missouri showcases the Hibbs family’s distinct music style over a set of songs that are warmhearted, contemplative, and filled with family memories that perfectly capture a slice of the American south. – Written by JFelton
