The sophomore full-length album from Indiana quartet Houndmouth embraces a spirited combination of rock and roll and boogie that is both more refined and playful than their 2013 debut, From the Hills Below the City. Little Neon Limelight takes on a loose vibe that feels as if it is a live show, capturing all the energy and musical interplay that comes from a performance. From catchy four-part harmonies, to stirring keys and vocals courtesy of Katie Toupin, as well as tight guitar jams sown by Matt Myers, Houndmouth dishes out many rootsy flourishes to please Americana fans. Standouts include: the graceful “Sedona”; the loose country amble “Otis”; the gospel garage rocker “15 Years”; the Dylanesque “For No One”; and the slow burning Katie Toupin “Gasoline.” Houndmouth is a talented band with impressive chops, and Little Neon Limelight is a welcome addition to their discography. – Written by JFelton
