The 23-year-old Laramie, Wyoming-based singer/songwriter Hunter Hicks has spent the last few years honing his skills playing intimate Wyoming and Colorado venues. Hicks’ music draws inspiration from legendary artists like Townes Van Zandt, Bob Dylan, and John Prine, which shines through on his self-titled debut. The album was recorded live to tape over three days in the local high school’s old band room. Standout tracks include: “Hound, I Thought of The Devil”, “Little Bird, Scary Place”, and “Something to Lose” which feature close friend Kevin Hegyi on guitar; while “Scary Place” and “Something To Lose” feature his friend Shawn Hess on electric bass. Hunter Hicks’s self-titled debut is a solid album from a young up-and-coming talent. I look forward to his next release. – Written by JFelton
