Austin, Texas based Israel Nash Gripka follows up 2011’s Barn Doors and Concrete Floors with what is undoubtedly his best album to date, Rain Plans. Gripka’s third album takes on a fuller sound with lushly layered guitars which are enhanced by other strings as well as multi-layered vocals which lend each song character. Rain Plans has an early 70’s soulful dreaminess with reverb soaked psychedelic undertones that recalls a CSN&Y/Neil Young vibe. Highlights include: tender moments like “Through The Door” and “Just Like Water” and more sonic guitar driven songs like “Just Like Water”, “Who in Time”, and “Mansions.” Gripka’s previous releases were good and showed promise and talent, but with Rain Plans, Gripka seems to have found his sound. It’s a great album – go out and give it a listen. – Written by JFelton
