The self-titled debut from Durham, NC based Jake Xerxes Fussell is an outright gem that features traditional blues. Fussell’s musical background stems from a childhood following his folklorist father on documentary trips through the American South. While grounded in the blues and folk, Fussell brings his own perspective to the mix, modifying and experimenting with sound, tone, and instrumentation. Further contributing to the deep musical heritage are the production team and backing band – a set of Nashville based music pros and produced by guitarist William Tyler. Standouts include: “Let Me Lose”, “Pork and Beans”, “Star Girl”, and “Raggy Levy.” Jake Xerxes Fussell is an emerging young artist who has a real talent for combining traditional, primitive melodies with sharp, modern production – check it out. – Written by JFelton
