Jason Hawk Harris – Love and The Dark

  • September 15, 2019

Americana Roots rocker Jason Hawk Harris has had a tough go of it the past several years, wrestling with addiction and family misfortunes including his father’s financial ruin, the passing of his alcoholic mother, and a sister stricken with multiple sclerosis and whose son was born premature with cerebral palsy. Harris works through his troubles and lays them bare in his debut Love and the Dark. Musically, Harris pushes the limits of traditional Americana/roots music with a more contemporary approach that employs both his background in classical composition and his affection for Queen in creating powerful crescendos. A few standout tracks include: the expansive opening track, “The Smoke and the Stars”; the blistering rockabilly-tinged “I’m Afraid”; the rollicking love song, “Confused”; the brokenhearted “Cussing at the Light”; the catchy alt-country lament, “Giving In”; the uneasy “Phantom Limb”; and the gentle “Blessed Interruption.” Love and The Dark is a top-notch debut from Jason Hawk Harris and finds him moving through the hard times, surviving, and finding hope and a new start on the other side. – Written by JFelton
