Juno award winning country blues singer Jim Byrnes is out with the unexpectedly delightful album of 1960’s country covers, Hear The Wind In The Wires. Teaming-up with longtime producer and multi-instrumentalist and guitar master Steve Dawson, the two spent four days recording on vintage equipment in Vancouver, BC with some of the town’s best session and group players including Geoff Hicks (drums), Chris Gestrin (organ, tack piano, wirlitzer), Mike Sanyshyn (fiddle), John Resichman (mandolin), Rob Becker (bass), and Colleen Rennison (No Sinner) who is featured on the duets “Pickin’ Wild Mountain Berries.” Their repertoire spans North America, from Canadian artists like Gordon Lightfoot and Hank Snow, to American country greats like Hank Williams, Buck Owens, Dolly Parton, and Tom Waits, and even a dip in the pond out east with Brit Nick Lowe. Byrnes’ voice is clear and charming as ever, and throughout the collection of thirteen tracks you can hear his pure joy at playing classic country tunes. – Written by SMarx
