Former Madison, WI now Denver based folk rocker John Statz recently released his first full-band record Ghost Towns. While international in scope (from its genesis on the road while touring across North America and Europe to the subject matter of some of the tracks), Ghost Towns contains traditional Americana soundscapes and instrumentation, with arrangements that vary from alt-country to roots rock. Statz tackles serious subjects like in the title track, which functions as a protest song of sorts, a political statement about offshoring American goods, however he also indulges in a few upbeat tunes. Recorded locally in Madison as well as in Budapest, Hungary, Ghost Towns is a poignant album about the desolation and decay that like the bullet holes featured in the cover art, riddle the modern world.
