Norman Blake of Teenage Fanclub and Euros Childs of Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci have gotten together to form Jonny. Releasing their self-titled debut, Jonny often sounds like a kitschy homage to the swinging ‘60s, but that’s not to say it’s not enjoyable. “Goldmine” and “Candyfloss” are fun, psychedelic tracks and “The Goodnight” is a beautiful little ballad. Not everything is a success, though, most notably the goofy album opener “Wich Is Wich,” that sounds ripped from an episode of “Scooby Doo.” While this listener found Jonny to be a little too kitschy overall, there are certainly some great tracks to be found on this lighthearted, poppy album. – Written by DBosket
