Nashville’s JP Harris & The Tough Choices released their follow-up to 2012’s award winning debut, I’ll Keep Calling, with Home Is Where the Hurt Is – one of the best country albums of the year. The Alabama native goes full on honky tonk complete with emotionally charged vocals and gritty themes of love, heartbreak, and pain. The title track, which is also the name of a 1967 Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton ditty, turns the latter on its head, where the narrator comes home each night to wallow in the pain instead of staying away and partying to avoid it. The ten tracks, which were co-produced with Adam Meisterhans and Justin Francis, similarly dive headlong into the struggles and hardships of life and relationships. Standouts on Home Is Where the Hurt Is include opener “Give a Little Lovin’”, the title track, and “Truckstop Amphetamines.” – Written by SMarx
