Kalispell is the Americana/folk project of Eau Claire, Wisconsin singer/songwriter Shane Leonard, who is also known for his work with Field Report, Ben Sollee, Stray Birds and others. For Printer’s Son, Leonard’s fans successfully funded a Kickstarter campaign to cover production of the album. Musically, Leonard combines Appalachian folk traditions with classical and jazz elements, culminating in a record with lush soundscapes and polished production. Highlights include: the instrumental opening track “In Chicago”; the reflective and tender “Windfall”; and the bluegrass tinged “Beautiful Doll.” The Printer’s Son is a beautiful album that leaves you wanting more.
