Kasey Anderson and the Honkies are somewhat of a supergroup with special guests, and their full length album Heart of a Dog forgoes Anderson’s characteristic roots rock in favor of driving rock and roll and touch of the blues. The Seattle and Portland, OR band is comprised of Anderson (vocals, guitar), Andrew McKeag (guitar, vocals; Presidents of the United States of America and The Long Winters), Eric Corson (bass; The Long Winters), and Mike Musburger (drums; The Fastbacks, Young Fresh Fellows, The Posies, The Supersuckers). Anderson, who has made a name for himself as a talented songwriter of touchingly melancholy songs, shakes things up with electric guitar, gruff vocals, and unapologetic bravado as heard on “Kasey Anderson’s Dream”; other standout tracks include “Exit Ghost”, “Mercy” and “The Wrong Light.” If you are looking for a tight, solid collection of rock, this is the one for you. – Written by JFelton
