Since their first full-length debut in 2010, Boston based quartet Lake Street Dive’s been wooing crowds with their unique blend harmony-rich vocals, ’60s pop hooks, Motown grooves, Stax soul, gospel and jazz. On their fourth release, Side Pony, the band doesn’t change things up too much, but their tweaks amplify the greatness of their work: on the production side with Nashville’s Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, Sturgell Simpson) and an increased level of fun and sassiness. Standouts include: the catchy title-track; the bluesy “I Don’t Care About You”; the toe-tapping “Godawful Things”; the soulful groove of “Mistakes”; the fiery anthem “Hell Yeah”; and the sassy put-down of an inept lover “Spectacular Failure.” One of my favorite bands of this decade, Side Pony continues a string of extremely catchy and enjoyable albums! – Written by JFelton
