Leaf Rapids is the side project of Manitoba based band Nathan (singer/songwriter Keri Latimer and her husband Devon), and they’ve released their debut album, Lucky Stars. Leaf Rapids is comprised of Keri (vocals), Devon (bass), multi-Juno winning producer Steve Dawson (Jim Byrnes, Old Man Luedecke, The Deep Dark Woods) on keyboards, banjo and guitars alongside Gary Craig (Blackie and the Rodeo Kings). On Lucky Stars, Keri’s incredible vocals and poetic songwriting are the centerpiece from which the band weaves traditional American music styles with modern genres, expressing an expansive pastoral quality. Standouts include: the ethereal “Virtual Machine”; the country-inspired “April”; the bluesy “Healing Feeling”; a cover of David Bowie’s “The Man Who Sold the World”; and the twangy “Gravity and a Ladder of Gold.” Lucky Stars is a gorgeous debut from some of Canada’s top roots musicians who are putting a fresh spin on traditional Americana music. – Written by JFelton
