Texas singer Leon Bridges’ debut album Coming Home is like stepping back in time to the heyday of 1950’s and 60’s soul. Bridges’ career began with open-mic shows that led to Soundcloud releases which in turn built a large fanbase. Since then, the young acclaimed soul singer has gained popular recognition for the authenticity of his retro sound, which was recorded live in studio on vintage equipment, drawing favorable comparisons to Sam Cooke and Otis Redding. Standouts on the LP include: the crooning title track; the tender ode to his mother “Lisa Sawyer”; the upbeat “Twistin’ & Groovin”; the hip-shaking “Better Man”; and the doo-wop tinged “Brown Skin Girl.” Coming Home is an impressive debut from a young standout talent. – Written by JFelton
