Up and coming Winnipeg band Les Jupes (the skirts) debut their driving and dynamic brand of rock on Modern Myths, a well-crafted 10 song sonic exploration. Revolving around songwriter and frontman Mike Petkau Falk’s (formerly of The Liptonians) compelling baritone, Les Jupes’ membership has changed multiple times; liner notes credit Petkau Falk (guitar), Kelly Beaton (moog & farfisa), David Schellenberg (bass), and Adam Klassen. Despite the line-up shifts and thematic hodge podge of subjects (Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev, math, ghosts, etc.), the album is solid. Notably, at the production helm is Marcus Paquin, who in between work on Arcade Fire’s Grammy Award winning The Suburbs. – Written by JFelton
