Following 2010’s self titled EP, Texan Lincoln Durham is out with his excellent full length of Americana/roots, The Shovel vs. The Howling Bones. Ray Wylie Hubbard is back behind the producer banner, this time joined by George Reiff; the two also provide backing strings along with Jeff Plankenhorn, Derek O’Brien and percussion, which takes a primary role in this batch of songs, is provided by Rick Richards. In addition to all the studio star power, the album further showcases Durham’s spin on gritty, dirty blues, with powerful slide guitar and swampy twang-tinged harmonica. Top tracks include opening track “Drifting Wood”, “Clementine”, and “Trucker’s Love Song.” – Written by JFelton
