Real Life Color, the debut LP from Boston’s Magic Man, is a special blend of the energetic Postal Service with a more DIY sensibility. Sam Lee and Alex Caplow make up Magic Man, and they wrote these songs in various French locales before finishing the album in the U.S. The album is full of great electro beats, twinkling sounds and plenty of futuristic, spacey optimism. “Polygon” is a very satisfying track that starts off with a fast beat and simple synth melody before moving into a swooning chorus that would make Ben Gibbard proud, while “Daughter” bears a slight resemblance to a Yeasayer song with its strong percussion, but relocated to a futuristic Shibuya club. It is perhaps not as romantic as the Postal Service, but Magic Man is a great addition to the indie electronic family. – Written by DBosket
