LA based Mapache (aka Sam Blasucci and Clay Finch) are a charming duo known for their tight-knit harmonies and laidback West Coast style folk songs that combine elements of country rock, psychedelia, and Mexican music. Following-up their 2017 self-titled debut is From Liberty Street – a collection of songs Mapache had written on the road and recorded in their shared home (on Liberty Street). The 14 songs offer a charming blend of improvisational experimentation with seasoned songwriting and an organic somewhat familiar vibe without the trappings of the typical American/roots tropes. Album highlights include: the opening sun-drenched “Life on Fire”; the rambling number “Cowboy”; the spaced-out “Coyote”; the lighthearted “Face is Blue”; the excellent lovestruck “Cactus Flower”; the Mexican bolero “Me Voy Pa’l Pueblo”; and the classic country-inspired ballad “I Just Steal Away and Pray.” Mapache’s sophomore effort From Liberty Street is a very enjoyable listen and I look forward to their next release. – Written by JFelton
